Subtractive Sponging
Applying the glaze in a jigsaw pattern, with sections no larger than 2 to 4 feet wide. Apply the glaze to the first piece. While the glaze is wet, dab a clean, damp sea sponge onto the surface, lifting enough of the glaze to let the background color show through. Leave an area about 6" wide along the edge of the glaze untouched. Apply the next section right up to (but not overlapping) the 6" area. Then begin sponging off the previously untouched 6" area.

Step One:
Apply base Coat. Remember, remove tape if you are not completing your project the same day.

Step Two:
Reapply tape. Using a premium quality roller, apply an even coat of Special Effects Translucent Color, Opal or Pearl Glaze in random sections, resembling a jigsaw puzzle. Proceed to the next step quickly, before the glaze begins to dry.

Step Three:
Using a damp, clean natural sea sponge, dab the first section of glaze with a light blotting motion, vary the position of the sponge as you work. When the sponge becomes saturated with glaze, rinse in water and wring out well. Use a smaller sponge for corners and tight areas.
