Metallizing Technique
Before Starting this technique, mask woodwork, floors, ceiling and corners. Applying McCloskey Special Effects Base Coat is as simple as applying any latex wall paint. Follow label directions to ensure the best results. Begin by cutting in corners and edges with a high-quality nylon-bristle brush. Paint large areas with a high-quality short, 3/8” nap roller cover. Finish each area by rolling full length from ceiling to floor to eliminate lap marks. Allow to dry for a minimum of 4 hours, or overnight. Step Two: Reapply tape, if necessary. Using a premium-quality nylon brush or a roller with 3/8”nap, apply an even coat of Metallic Glaze in Gold, Silver, Copper or Bronze. Apply glaze in a 4 to 6 foot square area, using natural breaks such as doors, windows and corners as stopping points. Step Three: While the glaze is still wet, take a wallpaper smoothing brush and sweep it over the surface in large overlapping arcs. Glimpses of the base coat will show through, creating the glowing, lustrous look of brushed metals. Remove tape and allow to dry overnight. IF a richer look is desired, add a second coat after the first dried, using the same technique. Step Four (Optional): If a burnished effect is desired, use a clean cheesecloth to hand rub on a coat of Asphalt Aging Glaze.
