RRP- Debunking Myth & Mystery
The Federal Government is gearing up to enforce for violations of the Renovation Remodeling and Paint Act of 2009. Most firms would be out of business with a single infraction fine. The good news is its easy to become certified. If you accept any form of consideration for working on a house, you must be RRP certified.

What you Must Do to Become a Lead-Safe Firm:
You must submit an application to the EPA for your firm to become certified.
Find a training program near you.
Attend the certification program and enact all methods demonstrated therein.
Rental Housing and Child Occupying Structure Owners
These requirements do not apply only to professional firms- but also owners of rental housing and child occupied structures (daycare centers, preschools and other childcare facilities.) Landlords who do no adhere to guidelines subject themselves to the same fines as contractors.
What you must do:
Provide your tenants with a print-out of “Renovate Right: Important Lead Hazard Information for Families, Child Care Providers, and Schools"
Have all tenants sign the pre renovation form indicating they have been provided with the above document, “Renovate Right”
Hire an EPA Lead Safe Firm and validate certification with the EPA. Check for certified firms here:
